Our client has two care homes located in south west and north west London and we are looking to recruit Registered Nurses (either RGN or RMN) for our care home. We provide residential, nursing, dementia and palliative care to nearly 200 older members

 -Registered Nurses

Salary: £37,545.24 – £39,688.72 per annum (inclusive of unsociable allowance) Salary dependent on experience.
Hours: 44 per week (on roster basis)

There is the option to work 37.5 hours per week which has a salary of £27,989.85 to £29,877.53 per annum (plus unsocial supplements). Salary dependent on experience.

Our client has two care homes located in south west and north west London and we are looking to recruit Registered Nurses (either RGN or RMN) for our care home in Balham SW12.  We provide residential, nursing, dementia and palliative care to nearly 200 older members.

As one of our Nurses you will assess, plan, deliver and evaluate a high standard of person centered care, with an holistic view of the individual needs of each resident.  This will involve liaising with residents, relatives, our GPs and the wider multidisciplinary team on site.

You will be responsible for managing the unit in the absence of the Unit Manager and will be in charge of the unit during your shifts, as well as having longer term supervisory responsibility for allocated junior members of staff.

We know we are already providing excellent care to our residents and we want to work with Nurses who will help us to make that even better; so you will take pride in your profession and value your personal development and continuous improvement of yours and others practice.  You will also have the opportunity to undertake student mentorship or mentorship preparation studies as part of our active student placement program.

You will need to be RGN or RMN qualified with a current NMC pin number, have experience of working with older people (ideally in a care home setting) and you will have the right to work in the UK.

Knowledge and experience of working with dementia and palliative care client groups would be beneficial.

Postholder Supervises: To be responsible for the nursing unit in the absence of the Unit Manager or Deputy unit Manger

Purpose of the Job:

The post holder is required to be a registered nurse to co-ordinate and provide care and treatment for residents in the nursing unit. To work within the NMC and Our client Policy.

The post holder will provide an advanced level of advice and care to residents and will at all times promote multi-disciplinary communication and team working

To assist the Unit Manager to advance practice and service delivery at Our client in relation to the care of residents.

To assist the Unit Manager to manage the unit efficiently and effectively.

To assist the Unit Manager to provide a learning environment for staff and students.

Duties and Responsibilities


1.1To assist the Unit Manager to effectively manage the nursing staff on the unit through planning of off-duty rotas and the deployment.

1.2Report and discuss any deficiencies whether in the number or quality of staff with the Unit Manager and ensure the introduction of new staff to their duties.

1.3To assist the Unit Manager to ensure effective co-ordination of the work of all clinical staff, including provision of professional support, as appropriate.

1.4To assist the Unit Manager in ensuring that there is effective internal, interdepartmental and external communication.

1.5Promote good liaison with the relatives of residents and outside agencies.

1.6Ensure that the Jewish culture is observed regarding food rules, death of residents, the Sabbath and other Festivals.

1.7Be aware of and observe Our client rules regarding accidents and incidents, the property of residents and thefts and ensure that all staff do likewise.

1.8Be familiar with and ensure the proper implementation of fire, health and safety regulations and bomb procedures.

1.9Be familiar with and ensure the proper implementation of relevant legislation.

1.10To assist the Unit Manager to ensure that the ordering and use of supplies is undertaken in an economic manner and any equipment pertaining to the nursing and clinical functions is maintained in good working order.

1.11To assist the Unit Manager to ensure that complaints or matters of concern whether arising from residents, relatives, staff or others are dealt with in a sympathetic and understanding manner and in accordance with Our clients Complaints Procedure, including personally undertaking the work as necessary.

1.12To assist the Unit Manager and to participate in the recruitment and selection processes.

1.13To assist the Unit Manager at an appropriate level in operating Our client’s personnel policies and procedures generally and specifically in relation to attendance and sickness absence, lateness, disciplinary and grievance handling.


2.1To assist the Unit Manager to develop, deliver and evaluate education and training for staff at Our client

2.2To participate in evaluating and improving all nursing standards and functions of Our client, in conjunction with others, thus ensuring residents are receiving holistic care of the highest quality.

2.3Maintaining and updating evidence-based practice.

2.4Assisting all staff to develop skills and knowledge in working with older people.

3.Practice Development

3.1To assist the Unit Manager to establish and develop effective relationships with a range of managers, clinicians and staff within Our client and to plan and facilitate changes and innovation in practice.

33.2To assist the Unit Manager to support practitioners in clinical areas and facilitate the implementation of agreed programmes of change.

3.3To maintain a sound and current knowledge of care issues in relation to older people.

4.Clinical Responsibilities

4.1To ensure that, planning, implementing and evaluating of person centered care is carried out to meet CQC minimum standards required at all times.

4.2Supervise and maintain the safe custody, control and administration of drugs

4.3Promote effective use of communication in line with agreed policies and CQC.

4.4To participate in the appraisals and supervision of staff.

4.5To be aware of relevant legislation governing residential and nursing home..

4.6Engage in clinical practice on a regular basis to enhance clinical relationships and maintain personal practice skills.

4.7Assist and support staff on expanding nursing practice roles, ensuring practice is supported by appropriate protocols.

4.8To make recommendations to review the working practices of staff where the delivery of safe and quality resident care may be compromised. 4.9To assist the Unit Manager to ensure that outcomes for evaluations and reviews of practice are incorporated into Our client’s plans for service development.


5.1To maintain the post holder’s own personal and professional development and if a Registered Nurse, be registered with the NMC and record all professional learning experience (PREP), or otherwise to meet legislative standards.

5.2To network with colleagues within and outside Our client to maintain knowledge relating to professional development and research.

5.3To conduct 1:1 staff supervisions every two months for staff allocated to them.

5.4To meet associated national guidelines and fully abide by their guidance and be fully conversant with the Code of Practice of the post holder’s professional body.

5.5To adhere to and promote the policies, procedures and guidelines produced by Our client in relation to practice and more general issues.

5.6To assist the Unit Manager to utilise a range of research methods and findings to help monitor and review, modify and improve practice, ensuring the highest possible standards of care are maintained.

5.7To participate in any on duty or out-of-hours rosters as required, including working opposite the Unit Manager.

5.8To be responsible for the unit in the absence of the Unit Manager.

5.9To participate in any agreed systems of performance review.

5.10To participate in the performance review of others as directed.

6.Communication and Working Relationships

6.1To work closely with the Unit Manager and a wide range of others within and outside Our client.

7.Any Other Duties

7.1Such other duties, within the competence of the post holder, as may be required from time to time.



The requirements listed below are considered to be either essential to successfully undertake the duties and responsibilities of the post or are considered desirable.

1.Registered Nurse Level Two – Essential

2.NB998 or City and Guilds D32 or D33 or equivalent certificated assessor qualification – Desirable Experience

3. To have substantive experience in caring for older people in a nursing or residential setting.   – Essential


4.Knowledge of current practice in relation to older people. – Essential

5.To have a knowledge of the Statutory Code of Practice  – Desirable


6.To show evidence of developing effective leadership and organisational qualities, including knowledge of communication skills required to effectively manage staff and other resources. – Essential

7.Ability to function during emergencies, giving reassurance to residents, whilst ensuring confidence and setting an example to staff. – Essential

8.An ability to supervise staff. – Essential

9.An ability to encourage and enable staff to continue their professional development. – Essential

Special Conditions

10.Ability to work on a rostered basis, including evenings, nights, weekends and public holidays in order to meet the needs of the service. – Essential
